Izy.Aki Is Taking Omakase to a Relaxed New Level on Oxford St.

Izy.AKI is a Sydney omakase restaurant from decorated chef Darren Templeman (ex-Restaurant Atelier, O Bar and Dining), prioritising seasonal ingredients and a theatrical flair. It takes its place as Sydney’s first-ever Kappo yakiniku omakase experience: a style that allows the chef to guide guests through a curated culinary journey.
Izy.AKI’s chefs create bespoke six- or 10-course set menus, with ingredients and dishes regularly changing to adapt to seasonal produce and modes of sustainability.
The 18–seat, counter-style dining is straight out of the backstreets of Osaka: timber, dim lighting and theatrical charm make for an intimate dining experience, and the restaurant pays homage to Osaka’s secret izakayas: traditional Japanese taverns tucked away within the city, with Templeman honouring a philosophy of connection to “produce, provenance, and people.”
When it comes to the menu, Izy.AKI strays from traditional sushi omakase, instead leaning towards yakiniku-style grilled meats in a modern twist on traditional Japanese ingredients. Signature dish ‘The Egg’ is a prime example: a free-range egg garnished with white onion purée, foie gras, smoked eel and golden trout roe. The bar menu is just as special, showcasing the best Australian wines, sake, and native ingredient cocktails.
The experience is $125 for 6 courses, and $210 for 10. Reservations are available Tuesday–Saturday, from 5pm to 10pm—we recommend booking well in advance, as spots at the table are in high demand.
